Description

Samsung 42" S90H OLED 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart TV (2026) · product code QE42S90HAEXXU

The Samsung S90H is a 2026 OLED television whose main claim is consistency: 165 Hz VRR on a 100 Hz native panel at every size from 42 inches to 83 inches, with 4K 165 Hz on all four HDMI inputs. The NQ4 AI Gen3 processor runs 4K AI Upscaling Pro, AI Motion Enhancer Pro and Auto HDR Remastering Pro, and the screen carries Samsung's Glare Free anti-reflection finish.

Self-illuminating pixels and Ultra Viewing Angle handle black levels and off-centre seating, while gaming support covers ALLM, VRR, Game Bar, HGiG, NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible, AI Gaming Optimizer and Super Ultra Wide Game View. Audio features include Dolby Atmos, Object Tracking Sound Lite, Q-Symphony and AI Sound Controller Pro, though output and HDR tier differ on the two smallest sizes, so check the size notes. Tizen supplies the apps with seven years of OS upgrades.

42" S90H OLED 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart TV

An OLED range that runs 165 Hz VRR at every size from 42 to 83 inches, with a Glare Free screen and the NQ4 AI Gen3 processor.

4K Ultra HDResolution
GEnergy rating

The headline here is refresh rate, and it holds all the way down the range: 165 Hz VRR on a 100 Hz native panel, at every size from 42 inches to 83 inches, with all four HDMI ports accepting 4K 165 Hz. Most OLED lines reserve their fastest panel for the larger screens. This one does not.

Behind the panel sits the NQ4 AI Gen3 processor, a generation ahead of the S85H, running 4K AI Upscaling Pro, AI Motion Enhancer Pro and Auto HDR Remastering Pro. Samsung rates the screen finish as Glare Free, its stronger anti-reflection grade, which matters in a room with windows behind the sofa. Ultra Viewing Angle handles the seats at the ends.

A 165 Hz OLED at 42 inches is unusual, and it is the clearest reason to choose the S90H over the range below it.
About this size: The 42 inch differs from the rest of the range on four points: audio is 20 W in two channels with no subwoofer channel, where the other sizes are 40 W 2.1ch; gaming is FreeSync Premium rather than FreeSync Premium Pro; the HDR engine is OLED HDR, not OLED HDR+; and VESA is 200 x 200. It keeps the full 165 Hz panel, and it is the only size with a dual tuner and two RF inputs.

Ideal For

PC gamers and high frame rates

Every size runs 165 Hz VRR with 4K 165 Hz on all four HDMI ports, NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible support, HGiG and the AI Gaming Optimizer.

Bright rooms that defeat other OLEDs

Glare Free is Samsung's stronger screen treatment, reserved for the higher OLED models, and it is what you want in a room with daylight or lamps behind the seating.

Desk setups and smaller rooms

A 42 inch OLED that keeps the full 165 Hz panel suits a desk or a small room, and it takes a 200 x 200 VESA mount rather than a larger pattern.

165 Hz, and no size penalty

Refresh rate is usually where a range gets thinned out at the bottom. Here it does not: the 42 inch runs the same 165 Hz VRR panel as the 83 inch, on a 100 Hz native refresh, and all four HDMI inputs accept 4K 165 Hz rather than reserving the fast port for one input. Paired with ALLM, VRR, Game Bar, HGiG and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible support, it makes the small sizes genuinely useful as gaming screens rather than second sets.

Glare Free and the Gen3 processor

OLED has always been strongest in a dark room. Glare Free is Samsung's stronger anti-reflection grade, one step above the Anti Reflection finish on the range below, and it is aimed squarely at that weakness. The NQ4 AI Gen3 processor does the rest: 4K AI Upscaling Pro, AI Motion Enhancer Pro for fast sport and Auto HDR Remastering Pro, with Real Depth Enhancer and Color Booster Pro on colour and contrast. Filmmaker Mode remains for anyone who wants none of it.

Sound, smart platform and sizes

Audio specification changes with the size, so check the note against the model you are buying, but Dolby Atmos, Object Tracking Sound Lite, Q-Symphony and AI Sound Controller Pro are common to the range. Tizen runs apps and live television with Vision AI Companion, Now Brief and seven years of OS upgrades. Connections are four HDMI with eARC, two USB-A, optical out, Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, all on the set itself.

The Verdict

Why it stands out

  • 165 Hz VRR on all six sizes
  • Glare Free screen for bright rooms
  • NQ4 AI Gen3 processor with 4K AI Upscaling Pro
  • Four HDMI ports at 4K 165 Hz
  • Self-illuminating pixels with Ultra Viewing Angle

Worth knowing

  • The 42 inch is the odd one out: 20 W two-channel sound with no subwoofer channel, FreeSync Premium instead of Premium Pro, and a 200 x 200 VESA pattern.
  • Samsung lists the HDR engine as OLED HDR on the 42 and 48 inch, and the stronger OLED HDR+ only from 55 inches upwards.
  • Energy class is not consistent with size: the 83 inch is rated a step below the 65 and 77 inch, so check the label for the size you order.

What’s in the Box

The carton holds the television, its stand and fixings, the remote control, a power cable and the printed guides; there is no separate connection box, so every cable runs to the panel.
